WhatsApp is back online after global outage

WhatsApp was reportedly down for a couple of hours yesterday affecting everyone worldwide but is now back up.

WhatsApp said in a media statement that it was down but refused to say what caused it.
WhatsApp is very popular and many people use it in place of SMS. You can imagine the frustration that occurred due to the outage.

WhatsApp's social media accounts didn't help it either due to the fact that their Twitter account which provide the public with info about when it was down hasn't been updated in 3 years which was around the time Facebook bought it for $19 billion while its Facebook account is relatively active but didn't post anything about the outage too.

Around 1AM GMT+1 this morning WhatsApp was back online and a spokesperson had this to say
Earlier today, WhatsApp users in all parts of the world were unable to access WhatsApp for a few hours. We have now fixed the issue and apologize for the inconvenience.
Also you can check if your WhatsApp works properly by opening it up, and navigating to the menu then Settings > Help > System status.
