Facebook copies Instagram's copy of Snapchat's Stories

Facebook is copying yet another feature from Snapchat which it also copied into Instagram :/.

Introducing Facebook Stories, a feature identical to Instagram Stories and Snapchat Stories (Haha Stories).

It works just like the Instagram variant. Open up and Facebook and you'll see above your news feed circular profile icons representing your friends' Stories. Just like Instagram and Snapchat, the Stories disappear after 24 hours.

Pictures added to Stories don't show up on your news feed or on your timeline and as such you can't comment on them in the usual Facebook manner. We also don't know whether you can add existing photos to Facebook Stories.

Facebook and Instagram are two very different social networks and as such it'll be cool to see how Facebook Stories might differentiate from Instagram Stories.

It'll also be cool to see how Facebook might implement Stories on desktops and PCs and I'd like to see an option to link my Instagram Stories to my Facebook Stories after all there's an option to link Instagram Photos to your Facebook account.

Facebook says it's introducing Stories because:
The way people share today is different to five or even two years ago — it’s much more visual, with more photos and videos than ever before. We want to make it fast and fun for people to share creative and expressive photos and videos with whoever they want, whenever they want. We’ve been testing a new camera and the new Direct feature in Ireland since last fall, and Stories is another example of how we’re helping people share the way they want to.
The fact that over 150 million people have used Instagram Stories in the last 5 months is proof of it's undying success and as such could also prove successful in Facebook's iteration. Facebook built an Instagram Stories clone in July called Quick Updates but cancelled it in August. Apparently Instagram Stories' success changed its mind.

Facebook Stories is being tested in Ireland for now and will roll out (autobots hehe) to other countries in the coming months.
